In perpetual motion
Like the sea, Nevlunghavn Guesthouse is in perpetual motion. What’s beautiful becomes even more delightful, what’s fun becomes even more exciting. Imagine intriguing scenarios in hidden spaces while you enjoy your afternoon tea in the lounge. Who knows what might unfold under the summer morning sun!
Bathers, that is!
Nevlunghavn Guesthouse harbours the kind of magic one expects at a seaside hotel. Exciting maritime history, compelling tales about rugged sea captains and tragic shipwrecks. Stormy seas contrast with delicate delights from the bakery, clinking glass, sparkling wines, and lobster served on white linen. Imagine cosy conversation beneath chandeliers with a view of sailboat masts under a full moon and a hint of cigar smoke in the air. Life began in the sea – and it continues at Nevlunghavn Guesthouse.

Our history
It was guests from another world who first frequented Nevlunghavn Guesthouse during the late 19th century. Some wore long dark coats and top hats while others wore jaunty caps with a feather. It was the well-to-do crowd who played the casinos at Deauville, wandered the beaches at Skagen, and sailed from spa to spa in the Stockholm archipelago. It was fashionable to stay at seaside resorts, even in a remote corner of Norway.
Nevlunghavn saw and seized the opportunity. By the 1920s, it was not uncommon to see extravagant sports cars and glamorous guests arriving at Nevlunghaven Guesthouse. Greta Garbo even stayed here. The tiny village of Nevlunghavn had been changed - forever!
Nevlunghavn Guesthouse
– anno 1920
It all began in the small fishing village of Nevlunghavn, at the northern end of the wild crossing from Denmark to Norway across the Skagerak.
In this same idyllic environment, we are now building Nevlunghavn Brygge which includes Nevlunghavn Guesthouse (a seaside hotel since 1920), a quayside restaurant, fish depot and seafood shop. We specialise in creating local activities and experiences for vacationers, groups and even locals. Norway’s fabled southern coastline meets Skagen, Denmark, here on the Skagerak where sea, sky, harbour and history meet!
Bathrobes for the people!
It’s hard to find anybody who does not like wrapping themselves in a bathrobe and being pampered.
Additionally, there is no love that doesn’t grow stronger in the sea air, or friendship that doesn’t become deeper after gazing out across the sea together.
And to those who think you know exactly what life is like at a seaside hotel, you are absolutely right! It's just like that, from the salty scent in the rooms to the sudden discovery of a tear in your swimsuit just before changing for dinner.
One may swoon from all the stimulus – the aesthetics of the sea, the historic surroundings, and the bubbly in your glass. We like to say Nevlunghavn Guesthouse is proof that real life began in the sea, and was restored to its former glory. No wonder you always want to go back.
